Good day and welcome to this episode of the Books and Authors Fantasy Podcast. I’m your host, podcaster and author of Fun Fantasy Reads, Jamie Davis. This podcast is exactly what the title says it is, a show focused on everything in fantasy books.

Kicking off things this week, I’ll start with my author update. I will be wrapping up the edits on Huntress Defender, book 6 in the Huntress Clan Saga this week. That means I’ll be ready to start on the next book in my master idea list. This is where I keep track of upcoming projects, ideas for projects, and harebrained schemes. The next project is going to be The Paramedic’s Amazon, book 8 in the Extreme Medical Services Series.

I’m also excited about the release of the first audiobook in the Huntress Clan Saga series, narrated by the awesome Marnye Young. You can get Huntress Initiate now in audio and experience the story in a completely different way all over again.

Okay, let’s get to this week’s featured guest. J.M.D. Reid has been a long-time fan of Fantasy ever since he read The Hobbit way back in the fourth grade. His head has always been filled with fantastical tales, and he is eager to share the worlds dwelling in his dreams with you.

He’s is long-time resident of the Pacific Northwest in and around the City of Tacoma. The rainy, gloomy atmosphere of Western Washington, combined with the natural beauty of the evergreen forests and the looming Mount Rainier, provides the perfect climate to brew creative worlds and exciting stories!

When he’s not writing, James enjoys playing video games, playing D&D and listening to amazing music.

Starting off with my update. I just started the edits for Huntress Defender, Book 6 in the Huntress Clan Saga. I hope to have that in to my editor by the end of June. That’s good, because I can then focus on Huntress Adept which is scheduled for release on July 8th and I’m excited to get it out and into your hands. Our heroine, Quinn Faust, has to dig deep to find her way out of trouble this time around.

I’m also excited about the release of the first audiobook in the series, narrated by the awesome Marnye Young. You can get Huntress Initiate now in audio and experience the story in a completely different way all over again.

In this episode I get to chat with audiobook narrator and voice actress, Marnye Young. She is the voice behind the audiobooks for my Huntress Clan Saga, including the recently released Huntress Initiate audiobook.

Okay, time to delve into this week’s featured author. This week we have Allan Batchelder back on the show. For those who didn’t catch his original episode last year on the show, Allan is a professional actor, educator, writer and former stand-up comedian.

During his years on stage, he’s gotten to participate in countless battles – some even with other people – involving longswords, rapiers, daggers, staves, pistols, bottles, loaves of French bread and, of course, his grimy little fists.

Allan is a lifelong fan of epic fantasy and horror, so you can just imagine how much he loves Grimdark. He’s currently working on the fifth and final book in his series, Immortal Treachery, before he tries his hand at a) steampunk and b) horror.

That is the sixth book in the Huntress Clan Saga series and is going to wrap up a lot of loose ends. That makes it both fun and simultaneously terrifying to write. Anyway, I’ll keep you up to date on how that process goes here on the show.

Let’s go ahead with today’s interview. Darian Smith writes mainly speculative fiction (fantasy) and lives in Auckland, New Zealand with his wife (who also writes) and their black cat (who doesn’t) and by day works with people living with neuromuscular conditions.

He has been lucky enough to have his writing win him two Koru Awards, the SpecFicNZ/Steam Press manuscript competition, a Sir Julius Vogel Award, and assorted short story competitions.

Darian is a qualified counsellor/family therapist and has used this knowledge of psychology to create a resource for writers on developing characters and conflict in fiction.

He can also be seen – by those very swift with the pause button – on television shows such as Legend of the Seeker and Spartacus where he is invariably a henchman of some kind and is most easily recognized on screen while being murdered by Spartacus.
