Exploring the Ashen Levels with C.F. Welburn

This is the Books and Authors Fantasy Podcast Episode 52 with CF Welburn.

Good day and welcome to this episode of the Books and Authors Fantasy Podcast. I’m your host, podcaster and author of Fun Fantasy Reads, Jamie Davis. This podcast is exactly what the title says it is, a show focused on everything in fantasy books.

This show will cover everything to do with fantasy books. From Epic Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Sword and Sorcery, and everything in between, expect to find the best and brightest authors from all the various corners of the fantasy book world. Plus we’ll add in a few other very special guests as well along the way.

In my author world this week, I’m getting ready for the launch of Prophecy’s Child in one week, on August 9th. It’s book 2 in my Broken Throne series. Book 1, The Charm Runner, is doing well and I expect it will do a little better once the second book is out.

At the same time, I’m digging into book three in my Sapiens Run Trilogy, Cyber’s Underground. This will wrap up this series and open up my writing schedule to look at new projects. I have several options to choose from in my project ideas lists. I’m trying to decide between starting a third “Accidental” LitRPG trilogy and jumping into an Epic Fantasy trilogy I’ve had rattling around in the back of my mind for a while. I’ll let you know which way I go when I get there.

As always, if you’re interested in more information on what I’m up to, check out my fan group on Facebook, Jamie’s Fun Fantasy Readers and on my website and blog, JamieDavisBooks.com.

This week on the podcast we have author, C.F. Welburn on the show. Craig describes himself this way:

Born in the year of Star Wars, in the birth town of Charles Darwin, he caught the fantasy bug as a child at the top of a faraway tree, in a hole in the ground and through a snowy wardrobe.

He left Shropshire to study literature, travel the lands and seek his fortune. He settled in Madrid, where he teaches English and art, whilst scratching his imagination onto parchment.

Get Craig’s Ashen Levels books here.

Check out my interview with Craig coming up right now.

Fantasy LitRPG and GameLit with Dakota Krout

This is the Books and Authors Fantasy Podcast Episode 51 with Dakota Krout.

Shifting gears to my weekly update, I’ve been hard at work on a total rewrite of an urban fantasy series I’m collaborating on with another top author who I can’t name yet. You’ll just have to be patient for that announcement. Editing is one of those things that a lot of authors hate, but I enjoy putting that polish on the bare story I created with my first draft. This is where I take things and “pretty” it up. Hopefully, I’ll be able to tell you more about that project soon so stick around.

Next up for me is to switch over and finish up book 3 in the Sapiens Run trilogy. It’s titled Cyber’s Underground and will conclude the series. I’m working hard on getting it finished and off to the editor so I can get the audiobook narrator started on it soon. If you like audiobooks, you’ll find most of mine available for free in your local library or wherever you shop for audiobooks so check them out.

As always, if you’re interested in more information on what I’m up to, check out my fan group on Facebook, Jamie’s Fun Fantasy Readers and on my website and blog, JamieDavisBooks.com.

Coming up on this week’s interview is one I’ve been looking forward to. Dakota Krout is a hugely successful author in the LitRPG fantasy genre. He and I traveled to a writer’s retreat with our wives this past year and had a great time with a bunch of other top authors from a variety of genres. He co-owns and is the President of Mountaindale Press which he operates in tandem with his wife.

Dakota is probably best known for his best-selling Completionist chronicles that starts with The Ritualist, book 1 in the saga. I’ll let Dakota tell us more about that in the interview segment coming up right now.

For my news update, I’m one week out from the release of The Charm Runner, Book 1 of the Broken Throne saga. The launch went well with a few hiccups along the way. That’s alright. You learn and move forward to make the next one even better. So, I’ll look forward to the next book in that series that launches in 2 weeks. Prophecy’s Child is already out for pre-order and is doing well. Such is the life of the indie author.

As always, if you’re interested in more information on what I’m up to, check out my fan group on Facebook, Jamie’s Fun Fantasy Readers and on my website and blog, JamieDavisBooks.com.

Okay, let’s get into this very special episode. It’s Episode 50! I thought we should do something special to celebrate and I’ll talk more about that later on in the show.

Our guest tonight is Fantasy Focus group founder Michael Evan. Michael was here on episode 1 of the podcast and I thought it was important to bring him back and talk some more about fantasy books, an upcoming charity anthology he’s created, and the future for the Fantasy Focus community on Facebook and the Fantasy-Focus.com site.

First off, my update. I’ve spent the weekend getting a full week of marketing and social media take overs for the release of The Charm Runner, Book 1 of the Broken Throne series. The book is now live on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited and is already doing great. It’s a story telling the tale of a smuggler of blackmarket magic in a world where magic is against the law. I urge you to check it out.

In addition to being an author, she is a mother, podcaster and professor. Noffke holds a Masters of Management and teaches college business/writing courses. Most of her students have no idea that she toils away her hours crafting fictional characters.

Noffke’s books are top rated and best-sellers on Amazon and among my personal favorites, especially her Unstoppable Liv Beaufont series.

This is the Books and Authors Fantasy Podcast Episode 46 with E.G. Stone.

First up this week, I’m excited about what’s in store for me over the next seven days. A week from today’s episode release, I have the release of my Broken Throne series, starting with book 1, The Charm Runner.

The series is based in a world where Magic is against the law and a mob culture springs up around the sales of blackmarket magic. I’ll be releasing a new book in the 5-book series every three weeks until all five are out.

As always, if you’re interested in more information on what I’m up to, check out my fan group on Facebook, Jamie’s Fun Fantasy Readers and on my website and blog, JamieDavisBooks.com.

Now we get into our guest for this episode. Today we have E.G. Stone on the show. E.G. has been writing, quite literally, since the age of six. Since then, E.G. has improved rather a lot and has written (so far) twenty-one full-length novels, various short stories, a screenplay, snippets of poetry, and various blog entries that may or may not make sense.

When not writing, she is off musing about the workings of languages, both real and created, or wandering around and experiencing new people, places and things. E.G. prefers to write while sitting with a cup of tea and a cat, but almost any location will do nicely.

Dragons, Superheroes, and Writing with James Maxey on the Podcast

This is the Books and Authors Fantasy Podcast Episode 45 with James Maxey.

For my personal update, I’m excited about the coming release of the Broken Throne 5-book urban fantasy series coming out in a few weeks on July 19th. I’m excited about the way many of my author friends are helping me out with this re-release of this series following my recovery of the rights from the original publisher.

Book 1, The Charm Runner, is up for pre-order now. The series explores a world where magic is treated as illegal and becomes a black market product like alcohol during prohibition here in the U.S. Gangsters, crooked cops, a super-evil hero, and more make this book the perfect summer read (at least I hope so).

As always, if you’re interested in more information on what I’m up to, check out my fan group on Facebook, Jamie’s Fun Fantasy Readers and on my website and blog, JamieDavisBooks.com.

Now we get into our guest for this episode, James Maxey. James’ mother warned him if he read too many comic books they’d warp his brain. She was right! Now he’s an adult who can’t stop daydreaming. Fortunately daydreaming+typing=profit!

James is the author of twenty books, mostly dragon novels and superhero novels. He’s been a Phobos Award winner and was the 2015 Piedmont Laureate. Check all of James’ Books here at his author page.

Check out my chat with James, coming right up.

From Epic Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Sword and Sorcery, and everything in between, expect to find the best and brightest authors from all the various corners of the fantasy book world. Plus we’ll add in a few other very special guests as well along the way.

Work for me continues to focus on working on re-writing and editing my current urban fantasy project. For a lot of authors, editing and re-writes are a tedious, but necessary evil of our work. Still, it’s important to get our books right. In the meantime, I’m enjoying working on continuing promotion of my latest release, Cyber’s Escape, book 2 in the Sapiens Run trilogy. If you haven’t checked that series out, out I recommend you do so.

As always, if you’re interested in more information on what I’m up to, check out my fan group on Facebook, Jamie’s Fun Fantasy Readers and on my website and blog, JamieDavisBooks.com.

Now we get into our guest for this episode, Brian D. Anderson. Brian is the indie-bestselling fantasy author of The Godling Chronicles, Dragonvein, and Akiri (with co-author Steven Savile) series. His books have sold more than 500,000 copies worldwide and his audiobooks are perennially popular.

He got started writing after a fifteen year long career in music, when he rediscovered his boyhood love of telling stories via the written word. It was soon apparent that this was what he should have been pursuing all along. Currently, he lives in the sleepy southern town of Fairhope, Alabama with his wife and son, who inspire him daily.

In this episode, we talk about Brian’s The Vale series.

Weaving a Rich Nordic Tapestry in The Fylking with F.T. McKinstry

Faith McKinstry's headshot

Good day and welcome to this episode of the Books and Authors Fantasy Podcast. I’m your host, podcaster and author of Fun Fantasy Reads, Jamie Davis. This podcast is exactly what the title says it is, a show focused on everything in fantasy books.

This show will cover everything to do with fantasy books. From Epic Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Sword and Sorcery, and everything in between, expect to find the best and brightest authors from all the various corners of the fantasy book world. Plus we’ll add in a few other very special guests as well along the way.

Okay, Cyber’s Escape, book 2 in the Sapiens Run trilogy came out last week. We’re only a few days in, but the series seems to be going well. Now comes the time to focus forward. I’m still working on a new urban fantasy project that I’m pretty excited about. I’m working on re-writing the draft and making sure I hit all the beats perfectly.

I’m also looking forward to the launch of a completed Urban Fantasy series. This is the series I recently got the rights back for from the publisher. This is a big deal for an indie author. As an indie, I can often do more to focus on the series and proper marketing than a publisher who has many books across multiple genres to promote. Stay tuned for more on these books in the coming weeks.

As always, if you’re interested in more information on what I’m up to, check out my fan group on Facebook, Jamie’s Fun Fantasy Readers and on my website and blog, JamieDavisBooks.com.

Alright, time to get into this week’s episode interview. Today’s episode features author Faith McKinstry. Faith grew up studying classical music, reading books, and drawing. For years, in the closets of high tech jobs, she created fantasy worlds; now she spends most of her time living in them. Among other things, her work is inspired by Northern European mythology and folklore, fairy tales, mythical creatures, creepy gardens, medieval warfare, and more.

Faith’s written works include the fantasy series, Chronicles of Ealiron and The Fylking. She lives in the north woods of New England with her cats, fishes, and a lot of plants.

Check out my interview with Faith, coming right up next.
