Anneliese Rennie Narrator in a blue blouse

Good day and welcome to this episode of the Books and Authors Fantasy Podcast. I’m your host, podcaster and author of Fun Fantasy Reads, Jamie Davis. This podcast is exactly what the title says it is, a show focused on everything in fantasy books.

This show will cover everything to do with fantasy books. From Epic Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Sword and Sorcery, and everything in between, expect to find the best and brightest authors from all the various corners of the fantasy book world. Plus we’ll add in a few other very special guests as well along the way.

As this episode is released, I’m off to Kansas City with my wife to attend the Independent Audiobook Awards there. I was honored to have my audiobook Accidental Thief, narrated by Roberto Scarlato, nominated for the GameLit category. I’m in some pretty august company there and I’m looking forward to meeting up with my fellow authors some amazing book narrators while I’m there. Win or lose, this trip is going to be a huge win for me.

I’m still also laser focused on the upcoming release of Cyber’s Escape, book 2 in the Sapiens Run Trilogy. I’ll be promoting the first book in the series over the coming weeks so keep an eye out for special offers associated with Cyber’s Change (book 1).

Also, if you like audiobooks, visit JamieDavisBooks.com/audiobook. You’ll find most of my audiobooks at a reduced price there because you’re buying direct from me. Check it out.

As always, if you’re interested in more information on what I’m up to, check out my fan group on Facebook, Jamie’s Fun Fantasy Readers and on my website and blog, JamieDavisBooks.com.

Today on the show, in honor of the audiobook awards tonight, I decided to bring you a chat with two of the best fantasy narrators out there. Anneliese Rennie is former NPR PBS FM radio host/announcer in a major media market. She has a background in opera and can present in English, Italian, German, French, Latin.

Roberto Scarlato is a Chicago native who worked a variety of odd jobs before someone told him to get into the voice narration game after hearing his rich baritone voice. Since then, he’s narrated books from a multitude of genres, including some amazing fantasy books.

Both Anneliese and Roberto are nominated for awards this year so let’s take a look at what it takes to narrate a good fantasy audiobook.

From Epic Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Sword and Sorcery, and everything in between, expect to find the best and brightest authors from all the various corners of the fantasy book world. Plus we’ll add in a few other very special guests as well along the way.

First off, I have a bunch of projects in various stages of completion. I started working this week with a new assistant to help out with the launch of an Urban Fantasy series scheduled for release in July.

I’m excited about this since I’ll be able to give this 5-book series the attention it needs since I received the rights back from the original publisher. Stay tuned for more on that project as it comes closer.

I’m still also laser focused on the upcoming release of Cyber’s Escape, book 2 in the Sapiens Run Trilogy. I’ll be promoting the first book in the series over the coming weeks so keep an eye out for special offers associated with Cyber’s Change (book 1).

Alright, time to get into this week’s episode interview. I was joined this time around by Ben Stevens (B. Michael Stevens is how most of you might know him). Ben writes science-fiction, fantasy, and horror when he isn’t busy working on his global escape plan. He lives in Texas with his wife and son in the Stevens House for Wayward Animals.

Published before in Magazines and Anthologies, The Goddess Gambit is his first full-length novel. He is currently wrapping up the third installment of the No Gods, No Masters Saga, as well as assembling a collection of previously published and never before released short stories.

I had a great time talking with Ben so check out this episode coming right up. Check out Ben’s Facebook Author Page, too.

Writing Gaming Fantasy with Dawn Chapman

Good day and welcome to this episode of the Books and Authors Fantasy Podcast. I’m your host, podcaster and author of Fun Fantasy Reads, Jamie Davis. This podcast is exactly what the title says it is, a show focused on everything in fantasy books.

From Epic Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Sword and Sorcery, and everything in between, expect to find the best and brightest authors from all the various corners of the fantasy book world. For my personal update, as we head into the summer with May ending and June rolling in, I’m getting ready for the release of the second book in the Sapiens Run Trilogy. Cyber’s Escape is due to be released at the end of June on Friday the 28th. With that, sales of the first book, Cyber’s Change, are still strong and I’m looking forward to them ramping up as the launch of book 2 draws nearer.

While that is all going on, I’m digging into a major rewrite of the urban fantasy collaboration I was working on last month. Beta readers had a look at the draft and had a lot of interesting changes to suggest to make the book even better. I’m thankful for their input as they pointed out a bunch of potential plot holes I didn’t pick up on. Such is the life of a writer, though and I’m digging into the rewrite over the coming weeks.

Now we get into our guest for this episode. Today we have Dawn Chapman on the show. Dawn has been creating sci-fi and fantasy stories for thirty years. In 2005, her life and attention turned to TV scripts, and she started work on The Secret King, a 13-episode Sci-Fi series.

In 2015, Dawn returned to her first love of prose where she revelled in the world of The Secret King, Letháo. She moved into the GameLit genre in 2017 with her Puatera Online Books. This year her experience of working with others expanded into a variety of projects. From Drama, Sci-Fi, Action, to LitRPG/Gamelit. Dawn’s built a portfolio of writing, consulting, publishing and audio proofing.

Surreal Humorous Fantasy Stories with James Walley on the Podcast

Author James Walley

Good day and welcome to this episode of the Books and Authors Fantasy Podcast. I’m your host, podcaster and author of Fun Fantasy Reads, Jamie Davis. This podcast is exactly what the title says it is, a show focused on everything in fantasy books.

This show will cover everything to do with fantasy books. From Epic Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Sword and Sorcery, and everything in between, expect to find the best and brightest authors from all the various corners of the fantasy book world. Plus we’ll add in a few other very special guests as well along the way.

This week, I’m working on digging into plotting out the sequel to Huntress Initiate. I love the main character Quinn and the cool VR gaming connection in this Urban Fantasy series. It’s going to be a lot of fun exploring this character in more depth in the upcoming stories for this series. People ask me a lot about if I ever run out of ideas for the next story. They’re surprised when I tell them no. It’s because I believe there are story ideas all around us happening in real time in front of our eyes. All it takes is to add that little twist that fits it into a fantasy story genre.

I’m also excited to announce that I have a free audiobook I’m giving away on my site. If you’re an audiobook listener and you’re interested in trying out the first in my Extreme Medical Services series, visit JamieDavisBooks.com/audiobook. You’ll find most of my audiobooks at a reduced price there because you’re buying direct from me. Check it out.

Let’s shift gears and talk about our special guest for this episode. James Walley is a writer of surreal and funny fiction. He’s currently working on book three of the ‘Wink’ trilogy, with a couple of random short stories sprinkled around the ether for good measure. His unique approach to both fantasy story telling and humor in his books make them a super fun read.

A World of Aeldynn Lore with Melissa A. Joy on the Podcast

Melissa A Joy Author

Good day and welcome to this episode of the Books and Authors Fantasy Podcast. I’m your host, podcaster and author of Fun Fantasy Reads, Jamie Davis. This podcast is exactly what the title says it is, a show focused on everything in fantasy books.

This show will cover everything to do with fantasy books. From Epic Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Sword and Sorcery, and everything in between, expect to find the best and brightest authors from all the various corners of the fantasy book world. Plus we’ll add in a few other very special guests as well along the way.

For my personal update, I’m wrapping up the first draft of Cyber’s Underground this weekend and hope to start right in on my first editing pass beginning next week. I’m also expecting back the editor’s notes on Huntress Initiate, the first book in a new Urban Fantasy GameLit series I’m working on with author Craig Martelle. I’ll probably get started drafting book two in that series as soon as I review the editor’s notes, make any necessary changes and send it back out for a final proofread. Stay tuned for more on that project and series. I hope to see it release early this fall.

As always, if you’re interested in more information on what I’m up to, check out my fan group on Facebook, Jamie’s Fun Fantasy Readers and on my website and blog, JamieDavisBooks.com.

Now we get into our guest for this episode. Today we have Melissa A. Joy joining us. Melissa is a fantasy author who challenges the conventional expectations of fantasy and takes them to a whole new level. It is no secret that she believes in the existence of all things fantastical, and that anything is possible.

She began building the world of Aeldynn and started her writing journey at 13. She has since developed it into something truly magical worth sharing. From the glorious winged Drahknyr and wise and fearsome dragons, to pirates of the high seas in a world rich with history and lore, her imagination is evident in every word she writes.

When she isn’t locked in a reverie about what’s going on in the world of Aeldynn, she’s probably out sailing the high seas on a tall ship, training at Kung Fu, gaming, or perhaps dressed up in costume at an anime convention. Check out the first book in her Scions of Balance series, Keys of the Origin.

Check out my chat with Melissa, coming right up. Catch up with Melissa on Facebook here or on Twitter here.

Wacky and Wild Fantasy with Stevie Collier on the Podcast

Good day and welcome to this episode of the Books and Authors Fantasy Podcast. I’m your host, podcaster and author of Fun Fantasy Reads, Jamie Davis. This podcast is exactly what the title says it is, a show focused on everything in fantasy books.

This show will cover everything to do with fantasy books. From Epic Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Sword and Sorcery, and everything in between, expect to find the best and brightest authors from all the various corners of the fantasy book world. Plus we’ll add in a few other very special guests as well along the way.

First off this week is my personal update. I’ve started writing book three in the Sapiens Run trilogy. Titled Cyber’s Underground, this book will wrap up the dystopian sci-fi tale that began with Cyber’s Change. I’m also getting ready to get the edits back for Huntress Initiate, a new collaboration novel I was working on last month. It’s an Urban Fantasy GameLit novel I’m working on with the amazing Craig Martelle. I’m super excited to get it ready to release. Hopefully, you’ll see that book this coming summer or early fall.

As always, if you’re interested in more information on what I’m up to, check out my fan group on Facebook, Jamie’s Fun Fantasy Readers and on my website and blog, JamieDavisBooks.com.

Alright, time to get into this week’s episode interview. I was joined this time around by Stevie Collier. Stevie is a bestselling Fantasy author unlike you’ve ever read before. He writes books that are true to himself… which means they’re eccentric and weird. Most people describe his work as Unique, Odd, Hilarious, Bizarre, Wacky, Action Packed… and different… kind of like the author himself.

When Stevie isn’t writing high fantasy, you can find him at the gym pumping iron or running with his spoiled white Siberian Husky named Spartacus. He loves watching movies (Horror is his favorite even though he says it scares the bejeezus out of him) along with a lot of anime. Not to mention that he is an avid gamer when he has time!

Stevie grew up with way too many creative ideas in his head and so he had to make a decision. Either sit and write down all his stories… or allow his brain to explode fantasy all over the walls. Check out Stevie’s The Jigsaw Blade here at Amazon. Follow his facebook reader group, Collier’s Conquerors.

I had a great time talking with Stevie so check out this episode coming right up.

Aegis of Merlin Author James Wisher on the Podcast

aegis of merlin series

Good day and welcome to this episode of the Books and Authors Fantasy Podcast. I’m your host, podcaster and author of Fun Fantasy Reads, Jamie Davis. This podcast is exactly what the title says it is, a show focused on everything in fantasy books.

This show will cover everything to do with fantasy books. From Epic Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Sword and Sorcery, and everything in between, expect to find the best and brightest authors from all the various corners of the fantasy book world. Plus we’ll add in a few other very special guests as well along the way.

I’m right in the middle of the first draft for Cyber’s Underground right now. I also have more travel coming up soon so I’m trying to get the book done before I have to devote my energy to other endeavors for the week. Sometimes writing is as much about keeping your writing schedule and expectations on track as it is about actually putting words down for your book.

As a full-time author, I have to treat this like any other job and that means putting in the work and effort needed to put out good books for readers like you. It’s fun and I love it for the most part, but it is hard work, at least for the brain, in its own way.

If you haven’t picked up book 1, Cyber’s Change, a dystopian sci-fi novel, you should check it out.

As always, if you’re interested in more information on what I’m up to, check out my fan group on Facebook, Jamie’s Fun Fantasy Readers and on my website and blog, JamieDavisBooks.com.

Let’s shift gears and talk about our special guest for this episode. James Wisher been writing since high school though he only started publishing in 2015 thanks to a book titled Write, Publish, Repeat by the guys who do the StoryShop podcast. He’s made all the publishing mistakes you can name, bad covers, bad editing, no marketing. He’s cleaned that up now, but it goes to show you can recover from a less than perfect start.

We chat about his books including The Aegis of Merlin. It’s about a young man who learns he’s a wizard even though the entire world believes it’s impossible for men to do magic.

Check out my chat with James right now.
